What kind of images appear in the game?
EraGuessr uses historical scene illustrations and selected source material to make visual clues readable across periods before and after photography. The scene-media disclosure explains the sourcing approach in detail.
Can I use a scene as a historical source?
Treat gameplay scenes as prompts for observation, not primary sources. Follow the source information after a reveal when you want to investigate a place, date, or visual detail further.
How does scoring work?
Each round is worth up to 5000 points: 2500 for map distance and 2500 for timeline accuracy. Location score follows a distance curve, and time score follows a year-gap curve with wider tolerance for older scenes. Daily and classic games use the same scoring rules; daily just gives everyone the same five scenes for the UTC day.
Can I submit scene corrections?
Yes. Use the feedback page and choose the scene or content category. Your report will be reviewed.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play without an account and keep progress in your browser. Optional Google sign-in synchronizes owned games, atlas history, profile statistics, and daily streaks across devices.
How does EraGuessr use data?
EraGuessr uses analytics by default to understand how people find and use the game, improve features, and monitor reliability. You can turn future browser analytics off on the privacy page. The service also keeps information needed for progress, accounts, games, feedback, and public leaderboard entries.
Can I play on mobile?
Yes. The game screen is responsive, including map selection, image zoom and pan, and timeline input. EraGuessr can also be installed from a supported mobile browser as a standalone web app.
