How scoring works.
EraGuessr scores each round from two independent guesses: where the scene belongs and when it belongs. The rules are public; the answers stay hidden until you submit.

Closer map pins keep more geography points.
Closer year guesses keep more time points.
Location and time are added together.
A standard game has five scored rounds.
The location score starts at 2,500 points for a perfect map pin and falls as distance grows. EraGuessr uses a smooth distance curve, so a near miss loses fewer points than a cross-continent miss.
The time score starts at 2,500 points for the exact year and falls as the year gap grows. Very old scenes get a wider tolerance because exact ancient dates are inherently fuzzier and harder to infer from visual clues.
EraGuessr calculates time tolerance from how far the correct year is from the current game year. The tolerance is clamped so modern scenes still require precision, while ancient scenes are not punished as harshly for historically reasonable guesses.
Daily and classic games use the same scoring rules. The difference is the scene pool: daily gives everyone the same five-round sequence for the UTC day, while classic starts a fresh random run.
After each guess, the reveal shows your distance error, year gap, location score, time score, round total, explanation, and clue notes. These details are intentionally hidden before submission.
